I enjoyed Kiznaiver just fine, but its opening was on a whole other level.
The psychedelic spinning patterns and soaring notes that disorient and draw you in. The zombie movie-like found footage. The way the personality of each character is captured so perfectly in just a few smoothly animated gestures. The visual poetry of everyone being pulled towards the center, towards each other, and the fate they all share, and pulling out to reveal an eye.
Then there’s the absolute banger by Boom Boom Satellites, with the spiritual resonance of its central lyric calling to mind the laying on of hands in order to bless and heal. Just a gorgeous feast for the eyes and ears, sad and mournful, but also hopeful, warm, and comforting. And it will wake you the f*** up.
