You know we dig big cars around here and having raced a car that ways way over 4,000 lbs we can tell you that it is a whole other ballgame to try and make one fast, consistent, and reliable. All the parts hate you because they are under a lot more strain than they would be in a 3,000 lb car, so that is a big factor. But it also just physically takes a lot more power to move a big heavy car. The old rule of thumb was that 100 lbs was worth a tenth of a second. That means 1,000 is worth a second. Which means that if you have a 7 second 4,000 lb car it is conceivably a 6 second 3,000 lb car.
