Nissan surprised us by announcing as many as 30 new models set to debut in global markets by 2026, with 16 of them featuring electrified powertrains. When the rollout is complete, 60 percent of Nissan’s ICE-powered range will be refreshed, helping the company increase sales. Furthermore, Nissan wants to reduce the cost of the next-generation electric vehicles by 30 percent, on the road to achieving EV and ICE cost parity by 2030.
The official teaser video shows an army of new models driving in formation. The video is purposefully dark but we can distinguish some of the models thanks to their LED lighting signatures and silhouettes. Among the ones at the front are the electric crossover set to replace the aging Leaf, and the next-gen Micra that will be based on the Renault 5. Further back we can see a large number of SUVs, a pickup, and a few Infiniti-branded models.
The announcement is part of “The Arc” business plan for the period between 2024 and 2026. Nissan President and CEO, Makoto Uchida, said: “The Arc plan shows our path to the future. It illustrates our continuous progression and ability to navigate changing market conditions. This plan will enable us to go further and faster in driving value and competitiveness. Faced with extreme market volatility, Nissan is taking decisive actions guided by the new plan to ensure sustainable growth and profitability.”
