MERIT Signature Lip Lightweight Matte Lipstick ($26) is a new extended shade and finish range added to the current MERIT Signature Lip Lightweight Lipstick Collection for Spring 2024. As you may know Merit has offered their Lightweight Lipstick in eight shades with a satin finish! For Spring, they introduced eight more shades with a soft matte finish. I just should probably start this review by reminding you I really don’t like matte lipstick. I just don’t like the way matte lipstick looks on me nor do I like the way it feels. But there have been times where I’ve found a formula that actually applies beautifully, looks great, and wears comfortably and one of those formulas is definitely the new MERIT Signature Lip Lightweight Matte Lipstick. If you’re a matte lipstick person you’re really going to want to add these to your wish list!
MERIT Signature Lip Lightweight Matte Lipstick come housed in an elegant gold square shaped barrel with a smoky cap that holds 0.10 oz of lipstick for $26. I like this style of barrel because they easily stack and store. I really wish more brands would do a square shaped barrel as I find them easier to organize. Anyone else with me on that? It’s actually made with 30% recycled plastic as well!
This formula surprised! I really like Merit so, I probably should haven’t have been to shocked! Merit is such an elegant yet simple brand. I never feel overwhelmed when shopping their selections and their makeup is always practical and very flattering on me. The recent Merit Flush Balm in Rouge they released a month or so ago has been become one of my go to for flushed, glowing cheeks! I’m ever always a fan of makeup and I love good variety and selection but the older I get the more I appreciate not having to choose between a hundred different types of lipsticks or eyeshadows. Merit keeps things simple yet sophisticated with their range of products. For example, Signature Lip Lightweight Matte Lipstick is a great formula and some may argue they’d love to see a huge selection of shades in it. But I actually sort of like they have a solid eight shade range and I don’t have to struggle between 30+ shades of lipstick. Eight is plenty for me!
As I was saying this formula did surprise me. I really thought it would be a typical drag to apply matte. Mattes just aren’t my thing! They always look dry on my lips no matter how much prepping on do. Not the case with this one. This is a soft, almost silky matte with a creamy consistency that applies super smooth! It has an easy glide on my lips and provided beautiful, pigmented color in an easy to wear formula that wasn’t drying. It has a velvet-like finish that looks smooth, perfect, and beautiful. There isn’t any dryness here nor any dry look. It doesn’t crack nor does it look flaky. It feels and wears comfortably for a solid five hours with bleeding or migrating around my lips. I can easily see myself picking up more of these shades! I truly loved the formula.
I got the shade Court to try out and I paired up with the Charlotte Tilbury Mini Hollywood Blush & Glow Palette to create a little bit of a Fall look below. The shade is described as a warm brick but I thought it was more of a burnt warm orange shade. It’s very flattering with peach or coral blushes.
MERIT Signature Lip Lightweight Matte Lipstick is an easy win for me. I’m delighted with this formula and I’m happy I got the chance to try it out as I typically don’t migrate towards mattes but this formula was easy to wear, comfortable, and looked amazing on! Has anyone tried it? Do share!

This formula contains Hyaluronic Acid. This formula was lightweight, pigmented, and wore incredibly comfortably. It has a soft matte, velvety finish that applied very easily and looked super smooth on my dry lips. The wear time was around five hours and during that time there was no flaking, cracking, or migrating.
