The outgoing Subaru Forester enjoyed its best-ever month of sales in March with 21,045 examples sold in the U.S. as buyers rushed to get the current model before the redesigned 2025 model arrives in dealerships later this year.
Subaru’s Forester has long been one of its most popular models and has proven to be its best-seller in the U.S. so far this year. March’s sales figure represents a 105% increase from the 10,264 units sold in March 2023. Year-to-date, 48,546 Foresters have been sold across the country, a remarkable 59.7% rise from the 30,408 that were sold in Q1 2023.

Sales of the Forester are particularly impressive when you consider that deliveries of every other Subaru model other than the Outback have fallen this year. And yet, Subaru managed to sell 152,996 vehicles in Q1, a 6.7% rise from Q1 last year, thanks almost solely to soaring demand for the Forester.
Starting with the Ascent, sales have declined by 14.2% to 12,683 units in the first quarter of 2024. Similarly, sales of the BRZ have dropped by 22.2%, while the Crosstrek has experienced a 7.6% decrease. Additionally, sales of the Impreza have fallen by 15.9%. Subaru also witnessed a decline of 13.1% in sales of Legacy models in Q1 of this year, along with a decrease of 15.6% in Solterras and a notable drop of 42.1% in WRX sales. However, sales of the Outback saw a modest increase of 7.5% to reach 35,213 units.

“Car buyers preparing for warmer days and outdoor adventures have been enthusiastic about our wide range of vehicles, including Wilderness models which highlight additional capabilities alongside the safety standards Subaru vehicles are known for,” Subaru of America senior vice president of sales Troy Poston said. “Forester, which comes available in Wilderness trim, achieved its best sales month of all time, a testament to its continued popularity in a competitive segment.”
The 2025 Subaru Forester is set to hit U.S. dealerships within the next couple of months. Its cookie-cutter design with references to other SUVs has sparked considerable controversy online, and it remains uncertain whether it will garner the same popularity as its predecessor.
