Last month, Skoda announced that it is working on an SUV for the Indian market. The SUV will be positioned below the Skoda Kushaq SUV. Skoda shared a teaser image of the concept of the upcoming SUV. Weeks after the announcement, the SUV’s test mule was also spotted on the road. Here we have another video where Skoda’s upcoming SUV has been spotted on the road. This time around, the video reveals more details of the upcoming SUV.
The video was shared by The Fat Biker on his YouTube channel. In this video, we see the test mule moving through the busy streets of Mumbai. The video starts by showing the rear of the SUV. We see bright LED tail lamps on the test mule. The angular design of the lights looks similar to other Skoda models.
If you look closely at the tail lamp cluster, you will realize that it has a design that looks similar to the Volkswagen Polo. As this is meant to be the entry-level SUV from Skoda, they are planning to cut down on many features. The car seen here on the test looks like the base model, and we do not see a rear defogger, rear windscreen wiper, shark fin antenna, or any cameras on the tailgate.
The registration plate of the SUV is placed on the tailgate and not on the bumper. The tailgate does have a sculpted design and looks like a typical Skoda. The side profile of the SUV gets a design inspired by its elder sibling, the Kushaq. The squared wheel arches and 16-inch steel rims with blacked-out wheel caps can also be seen here.
The test mule does come with roof rails, which gives it a muscular or tall SUV-ish look. We did spot the SUV next to a Tata Nexon and Punch. Surprisingly, the Tata Punch micro SUV looked as tall as the Skoda SUV. In terms of dimensions, the SUV is expected to be smaller than the Kushaq but offer a decent number of features.
The video also shows how the front of the upcoming SUV looks. The SUV looks similar to the concept or teaser image shared by Skoda. We see Skoda’s signature grille at the front with vertical slats. The grille extends to meet the dual-function LED DRLs. The headlamps are placed on the bumper of the SUV, and it is a dual-chamber LED unit.
The front design of the SUV is expected to look more or less like a mini Kushaq. We do not see fog lamps on this test mule, but if it would come with one, it is expected to be placed just below the headlamp cluster.
We also get a glimpse of the interiors. We see a fully digital instrument cluster. The infotainment screen was not visible; however, it is expected to be an 8-9 inch unit. Skoda’s upcoming SUV will get a name that starts with K and ends with Q, just like many other SUVs from the Czech manufacturer.
The upcoming SUV will be powered by a 1.0-liter, three-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine that generates 115 PS and 178 Nm of peak torque. This is the same engine we see in the lower versions of the Kushaq and Slavia. The SUV is expected to come with a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission option.
The SUV will compete with the likes of the Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, and Mahindra’s upcoming XUV 3XO. The Skoda SUV is expected to be launched in the market in 2025.
