The Volvo EX30 breaks into the Swedish Top 5 in March.
Swedish new car sales skid -21% year-on-year in March to just 23,891 units, tilting the year-to-date volume in negative at -5.5% to 59,822. Volvo (+9.4%) goes against its home market’s general trend to easily top the brands charts with 16.7% share. Tesla (-35.9%) is up three spots on February to #2 with a solid 10.6% share despite falling heavily on a record-breaking year-ago result. Volkswagen (-17.5%) resists somewhat but both Kia (-21.5%) and Toyota (-33.5%) lose share year-on-year. Peugeot (-0.7%) and Mercedes (-3.1%) posts the smallest declines in the remainder of the Top 10. Below, Suzuki (+160%), Lexus (+95.5%) and Polestar (+64.1%) impress. Chinese newcomer Zeekr breaks into the Top 30 at #29.
The Tesla Model Y (-37.2%) reclaims the lead both in March and year-to-date with 8.4% and 6.1% share respectively. No less than four Volvos follow: the XC60 (+28.6%) down one spot on last month to #2, the S/V60 (+97.8%) staying at #3, the XC40 (+47.9%) in great difficulty at #4 and the new EX30 breaking into the Top 5 for the first time at #5. The Kia Ceed (+21%) excels at #6, a ranking it also holds year-to-date vs. #10 over the Full Year 2023. The Tesla Model 3 (-32.6%) struggles but rallies back up 73 ranks on February to #7. It ranks #21 year-to-date as it did over the FY2023. The VW Golf (+82.2%) and Toyota RAV4 (+1.8%) also shine among what’s left of the Top 10 models. The Polestar 2 (+64.1%) is #11 and #9 year-to-date vs. #16 over the FY2023.
