There were bizarre football scenes in Saudi Arabia on Thursday. One fan went berzerk and whipped Al Ittihad striker Abderrazak Hamdallah after the team’s Saudi Super Cup final defeat. Yes, whipped!
The eye-opening incident occurred during the award ceremony celebrating Al Hilal’s 4-1 victory over Al Ittihad. As Hamdallah exited the pitch, a thawb-wearing spectator chewed out the player for a dismal performance. The player threw water on the angry fan, who subsequently pulled out a six-foot whip and struck the Moroccan forward.
How the fan even brought in a whip to the stadium is anyone’s guess.
X user @Hasan_201307 shared a front and back version of the fan lashing Hamdallah, who scored his side’s only game goal. Stadium security intervened before Hamdallah’s teammates sought retaliation.
Thankfully, the young fan sitting nearby in the wheelchair escaped without any injuries. Interestingly, Al Ittihad has remained silent on the viral incident. We’d love to hear from Karim Benzema, who is already itching to leave the league, thinks about such wild scenes.
