Indian SUV manufacturer Mahindra is known for making sturdy vehicles, and that is one of the reasons why many customers are attracted to the brand. However, it looks like not all their models are built the same. Mahindra’s compact SUV Bolero Neo was recently put to the test by Global NCAP, and the results are not something that would excite customers. The Mahindra Bolero Neo has scored a 1-star rating in the Global NCAP crash test.
The Mahindra Bolero Neo was tested by Global NCAP with the latest available protocols. According to the test, the Mahindra Bolero Neo showed low protection for adult occupants, scoring 20.26 points out of 34 in the adult occupancy protection test. Additionally, the body or structure of the Mahindra Neo was reported as unstable, and the footwell area was also reported as unstable after the test.
The test also revealed that the SUV provided weak chest and feet protection. Mahindra only offers the Bolero Neo with two airbags, and there are no curtain or knee airbags offered with any of the variants. The SUV also fails to offer a seat belt reminder for all passengers.
Regarding child occupancy, the Mahindra Bolero Neo scored only 12.71 points out of 49. The lack of three-point seat belts for all passengers, lack of a passenger airbag switch, and only one child restraint system (CRS) resulted in the low scores. However, the SUV did show an acceptable dynamic performance in this area; the mentioned points led to the low score.
Another reason why the Mahindra Bolero Neo scored so low in the crash test is the side-facing seats for the third row. This is, in fact, one of the major reasons why the Bolero Neo scored so low in the crash test.
After the crash test results were published, Mahindra came forward with an official statement. They said, “The Bolero Neo has always complied with safety regulations that have been introduced over time and continues to be fully compliant with the latest Indian safety standards. As we are constantly innovating and improving our vehicles to exceed safety regulations, we want to assure our customers and stakeholders that Mahindra has significantly enhanced safety features in all our recent launches.”
Mahindra is a brand that has been gaining popularity among buyers lately for making strong or sturdy vehicles. Their XUV300 was the first-ever vehicle to score a 5-star rating. After this, the Mahindra Thar scored a 4-star rating, and similarly, the XUV700 and Mahindra Scorpio N scored a clean 5-star rating.
The Mahindra Scorpio N was, in fact, the first car in the country to score a 5-star rating after the new protocols from Global NCAP were implemented. The Mahindra Bolero Neo is actually a compact SUV aimed at customers who are looking for a rugged SUV that is slightly more premium or upmarket than the regular Bolero.
Mahindra also launched the 9-seater version of the Bolero Neo as the Bolero Neo+, which has already started reaching dealerships. Tata is another Indian manufacturer who is popular among buyers for its build qulaity.
