This Porsche 944 S pickup truck is a custom street-legal vehicle that is allowed to drive on the streets of Germany, a location that has notoriously strict motoring laws. The UTE conversion was built by German Porsche specialist 914-Boxergarage with only the best parts, much like a Singer Porsche except less sports car, more utility. It reportedly took over two decades to complete the build.
The 944 S2 front end trades inset racing-style 924 Carrera GT headlights for the original pop-up headlights. A wide body gives the six-wheeler a more muscular look while a custom Targa roof adds to the car’s sportiness while giving the cabin more airflow. If the wheels look familiar, it’s because all six are from the Porsche 933 Turbo model. The eye-catching paint is a throwback to the Continental Orange shade found on 1970s Porsche 911 models.
As for the six-wheeler sports car’s truck bed, it is lined in solid oak wood. The truck’s bed is no short bed. It measures 81 inches long, a little longer than standard. A standard long bed is typically 6 feet 5 inches long (77 inches), while the standard for long bed truck beds is 8 feet long (96 inches), and a short bed is around 5 feet 8 inches long (68 inches). The rear is equipped with a tailgate, backup camera, and a tow hitch, though the tow rating is unknown.
Inside of the cab, the Porsche pickup features custom leather seats with orange stitching. The driver’s side seat is heated. The dash appears to retain its analog gauges.
For power, the sporty yet utilitarian Porsche pickup uses the 3.0-liter four-cylinder from a 968, a bigger four-banger than the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado’s 2.7-liter, though we don’t know if the Porsche’s engine is turbocharged like the Chevy truck. What we do know is that both rear axles are powered with the help of a rear-mounted transaxle out of an Audi 200 Turbo. All three axles are equipped with brakes to ensure safe stops.
The entire build took 26 years to finish. The 914-Boxergarage team has approximately 2,500 hours of labor invested in the high-quality project, which is approved for road use by the German TÜV. The Porsche UTE was listed for sale with a $189,500 sticker price on the 914-Boxergarage website last year. The actual sale price is unknown.
