The Citroen C3 is up 234% year-on-year in April.
The Spanish new car market bounces back up 23.1% year-on-year in April to a round 92,000 units, leading to a year-to-date cume up 7.8% to 336,726. Note this is still 23% below the pre-pandemic 2019 4 months result. Sales to rental companies surge 60.2% to 25,237 while private sales are up 32.3% to 37,548. In contrast company sales drop -4.6% to 29,215. Year-to-date, rental fleets grow 52.6% to 82,386, private sales are up 9.5% to 141,162 and company sales drop -12.5% to 113,178. Comunidad Valenciana (+50.7%) is the most dynamic region, followed by Murcia (+28.6%), Madrid (+26.5%) and Andalucia (+25.6%).
Toyota soars 60.2% to keep the brands leadership with 9.6%, in line with its YTD level. Seat (+24.1%) is up two spots on last month to #2, a ranking it also holds year-to-date. Volkswagen (+6.8%) stays at #3 and climbs from #5 to #3 YTD. Hyundai (+47.7%) lodges a fantastic month, while Dacia (+58%) does even better and steps up to #6. Renault (+25.6%) beats the market at #5, just as Mercedes (+23%) and Citroen (+20.9%) can’t quite keep up with it. Peugeot (-7.7%) and Kia (-5.5%) disappoint. Below, notice Volvo (+103.3%), BMW (+50.5%), Cupra (+49.3%) and Nissan (+44.4%) all scoring sturdy gains.
Over in the models line, the Dacia Sandero (+77.8%) shoots up to reclaim the pole position it holds year-to-date, this time followed by the Seat Ibiza (+86.7%) also in outstanding shape and up 9 spots on March to #2. The Renault Clio (+38.2%), up 11 ranks, ensures the entire podium beats the market. The Seat Arona (+6.4%) is a lot more shy but climbs six spots to #4. The rest of the Top 10 bar the VW T-Roc (+22.9%) all outpace the market. The Citroen C3 (+234%) is the most dynamic and steps up to #5, its best ranking since last September. The Toyota Yaris (+121.5%), Hyundai Tucson (+66.5%), Toyota Corolla (+49.9%) and Opel Corsa (+28.4%) also shine.
