Once again, the Tata Punch has managed to secure the first spot on the bestselling Indian car list. In the month of April 2024, Tata Punch achieved sales of 19,158 units. This sales tally is 1,611 units more than that of March this year. It has managed to beat the Maruti Suzuki WagonR, which came in at the second position. The Swift, Brezza, Baleno, and also the Hyundai Creta were beaten by the Tata Punch.
Tata Punch April Sales Analysis
As stated above, in the month of April this year, Tata Motors dispatched a total of 19,158 units of the Punch. This figure includes all of the drivetrains offered, like the ICE, CNG, and electric. Prior to this, in March, the company posted a sales tally of 17,547 units.
Tata Motors saw a jump of 8.4 percent on a month-on-month basis. Interestingly, the year-on-year growth of Tata Punch was an impressive 75 percent. Last year, in the same month, the company posted a sales tally of 10,934 units.
Maruti Suzuki Wagon R Sales Analysis
The Maruti Suzuki Wagon R was named the best-selling car in February 2024. At the time, its sales figure was 19,412 units. However, in the following months, it had a decline in sales. During March of this year, its sales tally was 16,368 units, which was only good enough for the third spot on the best-selling cars list.
Meanwhile, in the month of April this year, the Wagon R managed to post a slightly better sales figure, earning it the second spot. Its total sales in April 2024 were 17,850 units. This marked a sales decline of 15 percent on a year-on-year basis. Back in April 2023, its sales tally was 20,879 units.
How has Tata Punch overtaken Maruti Suzuki Wagon R?
Over the last few years, Tata Punch has managed to find over 2.8 lakh homes in the country. Now, this is not a mere coincidence. Rather, it has a lot to do with what the Punch offers to the buyers in the budget car segment. Following are the reasons behind the success of Tata Punch in India.

Car buyers in India are now realizing that mileage is not everything. People are now getting more inclined towards buying cars with sturdier build quality, which can keep them safe. And one of the main reasons behind the success of Punch in India is robust build quality.
The Punch micro-SUV managed to score 16.45 out of 17 in the adult safety rating. For child safety, the Punch scored 40.89 out of 49. And because of these scores, the Punch was then rewarded with a perfect five-star safety rating by NCAP.

Apart from being safe, the Punch also manages to lure in more buyers because of its multiple powertrain options. There is a Tata Punch for each and every type of buyer. In addition to being well-built and offering multiple engine options, the Punch also hits it out of the park in the looks department. Its SUV styling, despite being offered in a budget segment, has made it a popular choice amongst buyers.

Another one of the main reasons behind its success in India is the list of features that it offers. The Tata Punch comes loaded with numerous features. The models powered by the internal combustion engines come equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen display with connected car technology, a 7-inch semi-digital instrument panel, automatic AC, and cruise control.
As for the Punch EV which launched earlier this year, it gets an even more extensive list of features. The Punch EV offers premium features such as a 360-degree camera, electronic parking brake, touch-based HVAC controls, twin 10.25-inch screens, ventilated seats, and a multifunction steering wheel.
Ground clearance and competitive pricing
Being a micro-SUV and not a hatchback, the Tata Punch excels in the good ground clearance department. The Punch comes with a ground clearance of 187mm. This is much better when compared to vehicles (hatchbacks) in its price range.
As for the pricing, the Punch has been priced extremely competitively by Tata Motors. The Punch starts at Rs. 6 lakh and goes all the way up to Rs. 10.20 lakh for the ICE model. Meanwhile, the Punch EV starts at Rs. 10.99 lakh and goes up to Rs. 15.49 lakh.
