Russia April 2024: Lada Vesta gets closer to the Granta

The Russian new car market is up 81.2% year-on-year in April to 137,047 units, however it remains down -9.8% on pre-sanctions April 2021. The year-to-date tally is now up 89.4% to 467,739 but down -9.3% on the same period in 2021. Market leader Lada trails the market at +67.2% but holds 30.8% share which is better than its YTD level of 28.5%. Haval (+113.6%) is at 10.6% share while Chery (+38.9%) passes Geely (+61.5%) to #4. Changan (+466.6%) surges ahead and stays #5 ahead of Omoda (+94.9%) overtaking Exeed (+39.2%) to #6. Newcomer Jetour is up two ranks on last month to #8, Belgee, a joint-venture between the Belarusian government and Geely, remains at #9 while Tank (+366%) is back inside the Top 10.

The Lada Granta (+5.9%) records by far the smallest year-on-year gain in the Top 10 and as a result sees its market share freefall from 24.2% in April 2023 to 14.2% this month. In contrast the Lada Vesta (+4967.2%) skyrockets up as its production remained interrupted a year ago. The Vesta also ranks #2 year-to-date. The Haval Jolion (+73.2%) remains the best-selling foreigner in the country and the only one in the Top 5. It is indeed followed by the Lada Niva Travel (+33.5%) and Lada Niva Legend (+60.5%) both advancing slower than the market. The Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Max (+71%) and Tiggo 4 Pro (+24.3%) also lose share year-on-year while Geely Monjaro (+417.6%) is down four spots on March to #9 and newcomer the Haval M6 stays inside the Top 10.
