Plenty of top talent, like Breanna Stewart, A’ja Wilson and Alyssa Thomas, can win MVP. Who will rise above the rest to claim the league’s ultimate individual honor in 2024?
It’s time to predict the WNBA award winners. We’ve taken a look at the Rookie of the Year, Sixth Player of the Year, Most Improved Player and Defensive Player of the Year. Now, it’s time to discuss the biggest regular season award out there: MVP.
Who will win the Most Valuable Player award in 2024?
Breanna Stewart (New York Liberty)
The WNBA is oozing with talent, but let’s begin with last year’s winner, Breanna Stewart.
2023 was Stewart’s first year in New York and arguably her best season ever. She averaged 23 points, 9.3 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game, which all were career-best numbers. She did so as the bona fide number one, never missing a game.

Besides just putting up more numbers, how can she improve? By winning it all. Stewart and the Liberty fell short against the Las Vegas Aces, and while the postseason will not factor into the MVP award, being the top seed at the end of the regular season certainly will.
If New York can win the Commissioner’s Cup again and be the top seed with Stewart at the helm, perhaps she can fend off her competition and secure back-to-back MVPs.
A’ja Wilson (Las Vegas Aces)
A’ja Wilson has won the MVP award twice and most certainly will be in the running this year as the best player on the best team. Greatness can get boring, and audiences can get complacent, but make no mistake: Wilson is a special, generational talent. There is nothing left for her to accomplish, and at this point, her competition is not the players in front of her but the legends behind her.

To win MVP again, she’ll have to dominate like never before. That means dominating on offense, winning the Defensive Player of the Year award and approaching dynastic status by having the Aces on track for a third-straight title.
The scary part is that none of this is unrealistic. Wilson can do this, giving her a great shot at the award in 2024.
Alyssa Thomas (Connecticut Sun)
Last season’s MVP runner-up will have a great chance of winning this year’s award.

Connecticut likely will again be one of the league’s top teams and a title contender, and Alyssa Thomas will be flirting with a double-double every night; last season she averaged 15.5 points and 9.9 rebounds per game. Factor in potential voter fatigue with Wilson and Stewart, and Thomas can have the narrative angel on her side along with her elite performances.
Closing thoughts
Other players have outside chances of this illustrious award as well, such as Sabrina Ionescu, Nneka Ogwumike and Napheesa Collier, to name a few. Every season is different, and someone will take a leap and put their name in consideration for the best player in the WNBA.
The season kicks off on May 14, and now we can go from theoretical to literal and see how these players compete and compare.
