The Japanese motorcycle manufacturing giant Honda has patented the design of four of its high-end bikes in the country. This has been done to strengthen its foothold in the Indian motorcycle market. Among these, the CBR650R and the CB1000 Hornet stand out. However, it has also filed design patents for the CB500 Hornet and CBR500R.
Honda CBR650R
First off, we talk about the Honda CBR650R. This particular nameplate is familiar in India as it was first introduced in the country back in 2015. For 2024, this iconic model has undergone a series of updates that make it more appealing.
In terms of design, the CBR650R sports a sharper design. It is particularly evident in the rear section and the redesigned headlight. Both of these new design elements give it a more aggressive and modern look. It will also come equipped with a new TFT dash with Bluetooth connectivity.
One of the most exciting updates for this bike will be the inclusion of Honda’s E-Clutch technology. This innovative feature is expected to enhance the riding experience by offering smoother and more precise clutch control.
Honda CB1000 Hornet
The CB1000 Hornet is the largest and most powerful bike among the newly patented Honda models in India. The Honda CB1000 Hornet will come powered by the same engine from the 2017 Fireblade. This is a 1000cc motor which in the Fireblade made around 152 bhp.
Now, although Honda has not disclosed the exact output figures for the CB1000 Hornet, experts believe that it will be able to deliver over 150 bhp and 100 Nm of torque in this upcoming naked Streetfighter motorcycle.
The Honda CB1000 Hornet will also boast a new steel twin-spar frame. Meanwhile, suspension duties will be handled by a USD fork and mono-shock from Showa.
Technological features may include a 5-inch TFT dash that will provide riders with comprehensive control over various riding aids. These riding aids may include three default riding modes and traction control.
Other Patented Models
Apart from the CBR650R and CB1000 Hornet, Honda has also patented the designs for the CB500 Hornet and CBR500R. These models share an engine platform with the NX500, a popular tourer already on sale in India.
Both the CB500 Hornet, a naked roadster, and the CBR500R, a fully-faired sports bike, come equipped with the same 471cc parallel-twin engine. This engine makes a total power of 47.5 PS and 43 Nm of torque.
Most likely, both of the bikes will feature a switchable traction-control system and dual-channel ABS. They will also come equipped with a high-quality TFT display sourced from the Honda XL750 Transalp.
Honda’s Patent History in India
Over the years, Honda has patented many motorcycles in the country. However, not all of them have made it to the Indian motorcycle market. The company is known for protecting its intellectual property with previous patents. It has already patented bikes like the Hawk 11 cafe racer, CBR250RR, Forza 350, ADV350, and Vario 160.
Now, while the patents secure Honda’s designs in India, we’ll have to remain seated to know which of these models will be launched in the market. At the moment, there is no official confirmation from the brand if these motorcycles will be making their way to the Indian market or not.
