Enthusiasts of classic Porsche 911s have an abundance of expert workshops and tuners they can turn to when they want their vehicles to be made even more exciting. One of these firms is New York-based The RSR Project which has just completed work on a stunning 911 with a beautiful Gulf Oil-inspired livery.
The RSR Project specializes in 911s from 1984 to 1989 and it typically takes 12 to 15 months to restore and modify each vehicle. The firm was started in 2017 and only works on vintage 911s with a galvanized body and no accident history or rust. As was the case with this 911, all of the firm’s restomodded Porsches are stripped down with the drivetrain, suspension, glass, and interior removed.

A restomod 911 from The RSR Project starts at $375,000. This Gulf Blue model has been thoroughly upgraded, not only with a distinctive paint job but also with an improved engine, new shocks, and larger brakes. The company has not mentioned what engine drives this 911, but we know it offers 3.2-liter, 3.4-liter, and 3.5-liter options. The brakes include four-piston calipers at all four corners.
Elsewhere, the car has been fitted with new 15-inch Braid wheels wrapped in Michelin TB-15 tires. The interior of the Porsche has also been freshened up and includes newly trimmed seats and a steering wheel wrapped in plush leather.
A modern air conditioning system has also been installed, although at $10,000, it’s not cheap. There are also new visors, a new headliner, an upgraded windshield, rear window, and lightweight carpets.
“The newest Gulf Blue RSR is very similar to the original custom car that I first built for myself,” The RSR Project founder Richard Shickman said. “Each commission from The RSR Project is a real driver’s car manifested in a very special, unique way. While The RSR Project upgrades everything from the engine, shocks, brakes, and further reduces overall vehicle weight where possible, our goal is to create the perfect driver’s car for those that know and appreciate vintage Porsche.”
