From Tsukihi Undo we continue to Nadeko Draw, but unlike the opener, this is not a one-and-done episode arc. We check in on Nadeko as she’s about to be run over by Oshino Ougi on his bicycle. Ougi, who is now both male and squirrelly about whether he and Nadeko know one another, uses his superhuman agility to avoid disaster. But disaster has already struck for Nadeko: She’s looking for herself!
We back up to her current predicament. After her violent outburst at school she’s been a shut-in, or hikikomori, putting all of her focus and effort into becoming a manga artist with no success so far. Her parents have reached their limit with her, and if she won’t go to school she needs to get a job.
As thanks for assisting her with Tsukihi as well as a genuine belief in her latent talent, Yotsugi proposes two ways for Nadeko to proceed: reveal her true identity as a cute 15-year-old middle schooler to both the publisher and the online site where she self-publishes, or achieve the 10,000-hour goal of mastering her manga in just one year, rather than three.
The answer to how she does that without resorting to going without eating, sleeping or other things that cut into those 10,000 hours lies with the ability Yotsugi demonstrated with the slug: Nadeko simply needs to create more of herself. Yotsugi surmises that five Nadekos will get the work of one done in the one year she has to make something happen.
But there’s a flaw in Nadeko and Yotsugi’s plan. In an effort to differentiate her four copies, Nadeko drew four past versions of herself: the meek one with bangs, the flirty one, the wrathful one with an attitude, and her snake-haired god version. Needless to say, these are very different Nadekos, and no sooner does Yotsugi create them than they all reject collective effort and go their separate ways.
That’s how Nadeko finds herself running around (or riding along with Ougi) searching for four of herself. Yotsugi has also taken to the sky to intercept the wayward Nadekos. No doubt Current Nadeko will have to confront her past selves one at a time and basically reckon with them.
That may not be the key to her getting them to help her draw a manga, but the effort has already caused her to leave her room. It will also be a grand opportunity for Kanazawa Hana to flex her vocal chords voicing the four very different Nadekos!
