Saki invites Maaya, her only friend other than Yuuta, over to their house, and it’s fine. She also finally exchanges numbers with Yuuta so they can stay in communication. Their subtle dance athwart one another continues, and with each interaction Saki comes to appreciate Yuuta’s kind and considerate nature. Even when she presumes he’s a cross-dresser he’s not too fazed!
This week we delve further into Saki’s head than before thanks to access to her diary (presented like an old-school 4:3 filmstrip). She documents all the kind deeds Yuuta does on her and her mother’s behalf. Yuuta is someone unprecedented in her life: someone who understands how she feels and what she’s about with seemingly little to no effort.
When a long pause-filled dinner includes Yuuta telling Saki he hasn’t yet found a high-paying job for her yet, and that if she wants help with cooking and such she can just say so. But for Saki, it seems merely cooking for him doesn’t seem sufficient to reciprocate. One night she performs a yobai or night crawl, inviting herself into his room and his bed, and asking if he’ll buy her body.
Yuuta declines, but in a way that neither shames nor embarrasses Saki. After all, as her diary entries have indicated, he understands her well, and probably even expected an encounter like this to occur. They’d been talking about desire, the difference between having and acting on urges, and how sometimes people act reflexively.
Rather than sex, Yuuta asks if Saki will start calling him oniisan, but this is where his understanding of Saki still needs some work. Calling him that is the last thing she wants to do, partly because she’ll come to depend on him more and more, and partly because she’s starting to feel a certain way about him she’s never felt about anyone else.
