- Following the unveiling of the facelifted 911, Porsche is turning its attention to the upcoming Turbo variants.
- The cars will follow in the footsteps of the regular model and feature revised styling as well as an updated interior.
- The 911 Turbo S could have a hybrid powertrain that produces around 700 hp.
Porsche introduced the facelifted 911 earlier this year and now the company is turning its attention to the Turbo variants. That’s clear today as spy photographers have caught 911 Turbo S Cabriolet prototypes undergoing testing on and around the Nürburgring.
Spotted wearing obvious cladding, the facelifted convertible follows in the footsteps of the 911 GTS as it has active air flaps and a prominent sensor pod. However, the prototype wears a disguise that suggests it could be equipped with a more aggressive front splitter.

This has one photographer believing the prototype is equipped with a SportDesign Package and that makes perfect sense given what we’re seeing. As a refresher, on the current model, the SportDesign Package includes a front spoiler with side fins, aggressive side skirts, a unique rear fascia, a sport exhaust system, and a fixed spoiler with an auto-deploying rear wing.
Other than that, it’s a fairly typical 911 facelift. As a result, we can expect revised lighting units, updated wheels, and a retuned suspension. The model should also have a high-tech interior with a new 12.6-inch digital instrument cluster, deeper Apple CarPlay integration, and support for streaming video when parked. We can also expect native Apple Music and Spotify apps as well as revamped switchgear.

The biggest mystery is the powertrain, but the model is expected to echo the 911 GTS Hybrid. It has a newly developed 3.6-liter boxer engine, an electrically driven turbocharger, a high-voltage battery, and an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission with an integrated electric motor. The latter produces up to 54 hp (40 kW / 54 PS) and 110 lb-ft (149 Nm) of torque. This gives the car a combined output of 534 hp (398 kW / 541 PS) and 449 lb-ft (608 Nm).
Considering the 911 Turbo S currently produces 640 hp (478 kW / 650 PS), a 54 hp (40 kW / 54 PS) boost would take the model to nearly 700 hp (522 kW / 710 PS). Of course, only time will tell what the final numbers really are.
