Custom modern motorcycles can sometimes be far more about show than go. They can focus on engines instead of engineering. The Combat Motors P51 Combat Fighter is the antithesis of that. It leverages an air-cooled 132 ci V-Twin engine with 145 horsepower and that might be the least impressive part of the whole design.
Several motorcycles use fairings to shape their silhouette. The P51 discards that idea in favor of a raw aluminum chassis, complemented by carbon fiber components such as the belly pan, fenders, and heat shield. It also incorporates transparent elements to showcase important features.

Take for example the fuel tank where one can see gas sloshing around in the tank. Another glass cover makes the oil tank, intake, camshaft gears, and belts visible. There’s no question about the level of detail and craftsmanship that went into these pieces and parts. Then there are the engineering details that add to functionality while also adding a visual flare.
The strakes that bookend the headlight each have integrated LED lighting in them. They serve both as everyday running lights and as turn signals. Beneath them you’ll note the four brake discs. They look small but the point is that with four, they generate the same braking force as a single larger rotor. Each pair has a trio of brake pads, one on each end and one in the middle that provide even braking force.
The wheels are made of carbon fiber too and having smaller diameter brakes allows a better view of the layup. The LED headlight is adaptive and actually turns its focal point as the bike moves through bends. Every little detail appears meticulously agonized over. When new, Combat Motors (formerly Confederate Motors) asked $125,000 for this bike. The handcrafted bike sold for $81,500 on Bring A Trailer.
