After Masachika introduces himself to the rest of the council, Yuki excuses herself to attend to a matter with the art club, and asks Alya to accompany her. It’s Alya who asks if they can talk, and Yuki takes them to an empty classroom. Alya tells her she’s running, and won’t apologize; Yuki already knows, and won’t hold it against her. May the best girl win, etc.
Alya can’t quite ask Yuki if she loves Masachika, but Yuki knows she’s trying to and answers anyway in the strong affirmative. And because she tells Alya she loves him more than anyone (failing to mention she’s his sister), she comes out and asks Alya what she thinks of him. Alya can’t say whether she loves him or not, but makes it clear she’s not letting Yuki have him, asserting that he’s hers.
Yuki is thoroughly satisfied with having at least gotten this response out of Alya, though she makes no promises that it will be enough going forward. Yuki isn’t into her brother or anything but she does care about him to the extent she won’t allow anyone to hurt him, so if someone claims to like him (or say that he’s “theirs”) they’d better be able to back it up!
The thing is, Alya is a massive and incurable tsundere, and she believes Yuki to be a romantic rival (a notion Yuki is almost gleefully okay with not clarifying) so she can’t help but try to stake her claim on Masachika by sitting extremely close to him while enjoying her massive portion of jam.
Masachika is bemused by her proximity, but can tell Yuki said or did something to make Alya act this way, so he invites Alya to a family restaurant to talk after school. When he says it’s to discuss the upcoming election, Alya mutters (in Russian) her disappointment it’s not an official date.
She’s also distracted as a result of Yuki’s shit-stirring to the point she doesn’t really listen the early parts of the strategy meeting. That said, when he calls her “perfectly captivating” she asks him (in Russian) to praise him more, proving his point. They also share an indirect kiss when she insists he try her parfait, while he orders some super-spicy mapo tofu and she is determined to try it, even though it lights her mouth on fire once again.
Masachika tells Alya how legitimately tough an opponent Yuki will be due to her ridiculous popularity, and how the current president Kanzaki was swept into power thanks to his compelling underdog story of self-improvement. He also considers the possibility Yuki will pick a strong running mate like her opponent in middle school, Taniyama Sayaka.
Instead, Yuki arrives at the council the next morning with one Kirishima Ayano, who appears to know Masachika as she uses his first name along with the -sama article. While I salue Alya-san for striking a balance between school politics and the slow-burn romance between Alya and Masachika, I’ll be honest: I’m far more interested in the development of the latter, and hope it won’t be neglected as the election heats up.
