Days with My Stepsister – 06 – Rooting for You

The same day Yuuta’s best mate (whose voice seems miscast as he sounds like he’s pushing 40 years old) asks him if he’s seeing Narasaka Maaya, Maaya herself joins him and Saki on a walk home together. She’s come to help Saki study for an exam tomorrow, but ends up helping Yuuta, who has little experience cooking, make sweet-and-sour pork for dinner.

While Saki is using earbuds while studying, Maaya asks Yuuta if there’s anything between him and Saki; they’re not related by blood, she is looking his way a lot, and she’s upped her usage of perfume. But Yuuta has nothing to say, except that he suspects Saki is being extra considerate now that they live together. She’s also thoroughly grateful for the tasty pork.

Whether it’s Saki’s smile and kindness or Maaya’s inquiries or both, Yuuta is utterly distracted for the next day, and messes up a lot at work, something Shiori notes is a rarity. Yuuta heads home just ahead of a massive rainstorm, and after texting Saki asking where she is and getting no reply, he starts to head out with two umbrellas.

He’s in such a hurry that when the elevator doors open he rushes right into Saki, who already had an umbrella, along with the test on which she scored a 94 and groceries for an elegant thank-you dinner. Saki maintains she likes to give more than she takes, and deems that Yuuta had a lot to do with her high score, and she wants to thank him with a feast.

She also wants to be someone he can trust and rely on as much as his senpai Shiori. To that end, Saki also interviews for a summer job at the bookstore, so he may soon see her at home, at school, and at work, just as his feelings are growing stronger and more complicated than ever.
