A Ma Maniére looks poised to dominate the sneaker newswire for months to come. Earlier this August, James Whitner’s brand unveiled a six-shoe collection with Nike Inc. dubbed “While You Were Sleeping” in recognition of its 10th anniversary. Hot off the heels of the first drop, a new Maniére Jordan 3, the A Ma Maniére x Air Jordan 39 “WYWS” falls next in line, set to arrive August 30th.
Most of A Ma Maniére’s work with Jordan Brand has centered around MJ’s first few signatures, but this latest effort stands as the brand’s first stab at a modern performance basketball shoe. Despite the vastly different nature of the AJ39 compared to cuts like the Jordan 3 and 4, A Ma Maniére’s vision remains unshaken. The Atlanta imprint brings its signature “Violet Ore” shade to the upper, balancing between other dark treatments in a contemporary, sophisticated display. Material-wise, the shoe classes up with fabric elephant print sidewalls, grey suede overlays, and black leather on the tongue. Jumpman and A Ma Maniére logos are made visible through semi-translucent gum soles underfoot, while script A Ma Maniére text dots the lateral TPU portions.
The delivery stands as the first ever Air Jordan 39 collaboration and one of the first few pairs to release in general following the model’s debut earlier this summer. From a performance standpoint, the two most significant features to note are full-length Zoom Air cushioning and ZoomX foam, the latter of which isn’t utilized on any other Jordan Brand shoe.
