Pseudo Harem – 09 – The Same Boat

Eiji may be in college and Rin may be a senior in high school, but they’re still kids, and they’re in their first romance. It stands to reason the distance between them, no matter how short, could lead to some anxiety. Rin admitting he turned down a girl who asked him out has Rin worried he’s grown popular, so when he invites her to join him on campus while they’re on a Zoom call, she can’t hide her elation.

Rin makes sure to dress maturely, and is able to sneak into class with Eiji, which is like a dream come true. It doesn’t take long for her to spot a sporty beauty (“cheerful-chan”) and a gorgeous babe (“classy-chan”) and when she tries to emulate the latter’s sexy body language she inadvertently gives Eiji the signal to hide.

When two of the girls in his drama club invite Eiji to lunch they also meet Rin, the kohai they’ve heard so much about. They assure her Eiji isn’t that popular, and just as Megu said, she doesn’t have anything to worry about. The tables then turn when Rin acts out a scene of Sense and Sensibility in which she wows the college kids with her acting…and worries the heck out of Eiji!

Her enthusiastic acceptance of another guy’s marriage proposal was a little too convincing for his comfort, even though she was just performing from the script. When they leave class hand-in-hand, they both realize they’re in the same boat. Not seeing as much of each other as they did in high school is tough, and causes their minds to wander, but neither of them have any real cause to worry.

That’s even when Rin’s new Kohai Kiri asks her to read lines with her and inadvertently confesses that she likes her, albeit “in a pure way.” You can tell Kiri looks up to Rin. Ever since her performance in Eiji’s year’s farewell play, Kiri has felt her acting was lacking in comparison, which is why she wants to learn more about her talented senpai.

Once summer break comes along, Rin tells Eiji that her family will be heading off to the country again … but she won’t be going with them. Instead, she’ll be watching the house, on her own. She then works up the courage to invite Eiji to her house, an offer he’d never refuse in a million years. The only question is whether these two goofballs will be able to overcome their embarrassment and, ya know, kiss or something!
