Anna and Lemon have had their little arcs, and now it’s Komari Chika’s turn. The school festival is coming up and Chika wants to do something special, but her extremely minimalist application is personally returned by a sexily ghoulish Yumeko in a scene that owes a lot aesthetically to the zombie horror genre.
Both Kazuhiko and Anna are asked by the outgoing Koto to support Chika, whom she and Shintarou have picked to succeed him as Lit Club president. They discuss how to to that over a lunch Kaju made hoping her dear brother would get closer to Anna. But as a sheepish Chika learns while they’re on a little research trip, Kazuhuko and Anna are not dating. They’re just always hanging out together and have lovely chemistry!
Anna is right that the best way to attract festival-goers is to provide some kind of food, so Kazuhiko and Chika prepare a proposal whereby they’ll have snacks that relate either to select authors or their works, along with stamp-collecting stations for the kiddies. Anna and Lemon are impressed, and their only other big hurdle, the lack of a faculty advisor, is cleared when Nurse Sayo agrees to do it (no doubt for the surveillance opportunities it affords).
Terasawa Momoka voices Chika in a very distinctive way, with realistic stammers and mutterings you’d expect of someone so socially awkward and withdrawn. That said, we saw what Chika’s capable of when there’s a fire lit under her (as when she suddenly confessed to Shintarou). The fact she’s been chosen to be the next club president and lead the festival prep is another fire. So she puts her nose to the grindstone, wanting to rise to the occasion and prove herself.
Kazuhiko proves to be a satisfyingly supportive friend to Chika throughout, as evidenced when he simply stays by Chika’s side while throngs of students pass by. He can tell she’s nervous, and so does what he can in that moment to make her feel at ease. That said, even his ease is tested when he steps into the lion’s den of weirdos that is the Student Council to turn in the revised application!
