The 2024 IWBF Women’s South American Wheelchair Basketball Championship is poised to kick off in Lima, Peru, from 26 September to 30 September, 2024. Hosted by the Federación Deportiva Nacional de Personas con Discapacidad Física (FEDENADIF), the prestigious tournament will bring together five nations to compete for a chance to qualify for the 2025 IWBF America’s Cup.
Teams from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Colombia will join the host nation, Peru, at the VIDENA, a state-of-the-art facility that served as a legacy of the 2019 Parapan American Games. This championship not only promises to showcase top-tier wheelchair basketball but will also play a crucial role in developing and promoting the sport within the Americas.
Reymundo Delgado, President of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), emphasized the broader goals of the event, stating,
“FEDENADIF takes on the organization of the 2024 Women’s South American Wheelchair Basketball Championships aiming for the growth of Peruvian women’s basketball in the Americas zone. We expect to show our society and especially the new generations our favoUrite sport, wheelchair basketball, and how wonderful it is. Our commitment to IWBF-America also extends to the dissemination and organization of more events in our region.”
The tournament will see fierce competition as teams vie for one of the four coveted spots in the 2025 America’s Cup.
