Eiji returns to school to help his friend film a story about falling in love, something in which he and Rin are quite experienced. The two get to essentially reenact how they met and fell for one another. The resulting short film ends up going viral.
What Rin thought was only a dream of becoming an actor is suddenly within her grasp. She is suddenly caught between two choices: persue a life of acting and fame, or stay with the senpai she loves. The choice scares her. Megu tells her that no matter what she ends up doing, she has to make the call, not Eiji nor anyone else.
When Rin returns to the drama club room late at night, memories of meeting and falling for Eiji rush through her mind, until Eiji himself arrives to offer his support. Rin doesn’t want to leave Eiji’s side, but that doesn’t mean she has to abandon her dream of acting. Rather, Eiji commits to catching up to her so that they can stay close even once her career has taken off.
Rin seals her commitment to Eiji with a big ‘ol smooch, placing him above acting or dreams, even as he helps her achieve those very dreams. Rin pursues her dream of acting by accepting the talent agency’s offer, while Eiji resolves to become an indispensable stage crew member.
Eiji ends up proposing marriage to Rin, which she enthusiastically accepts. It was almost a foregone conclusion that these two would become life partners, but it’s wonderful to see it unfold in real time, just as it was great to see Rin kiss Eiji, and to see how they confessed to one another. The undiscovered country that is married life awaits Rin and Eiji. I think they’ll far just fine!
I love a rom-com that cuts through the fat and delivers a mutually beneficial relationship between its primary leads. I can’t really ask for more, but Pseudo Harm delivered some of the most heartwarming moments of a hot summer season.
