Who is the favorite to win the NBA Championship just ahead of the new season tipping off?
It’s the eve of a new NBA season. A new season brings plenty of excitement. New expectations are placed and new title contenders are born. However, for a reigning NBA Champion, the season can be quite tough as they’re expected to repeat and achieve the same feat.
For the Boston Celtics, they’re certainly a choice to be the favorite to win the title once again. There is also teams like the Oklahoma City Thunder, Milwaukee Bucks, Philadelphia 76ers, Minnesota Timberwolves and more with title hopes.
With a handful of teams that can be considered a contender, the eve of the NBA season is a great time to make predictions like which two teams will square off for a championship and which one will hoist the Larry O’Brien in June.
Skip Bayless predicts the NBA Finals
Just before the new NBA season begins, Skip Bayless took to his show, “The Skip Bayless Show,” to give his prediction. Bayless’ title prediction might not be that shocking, but his reason behind making that selection is quite interesting.
“I am pleasantly shocked my Oklahoma City Thunder are favored to win the West,” Bayless said. “That’s my finals [prediction], Boston-OKC… I’m gonna go Celtics in five [games] over my Thunder in the finals. Jaylen Brown is the baddest man in basketball. Jaylen Brown is the baddest man on the basketball planet.”
To pick the two favorites — the Thunder and Celtics — to square off in the championship series is quite a safe prediction. However, calling Jaylen Brown the “baddest man” in the sport across the world is quite a bold take.
Between Oklahoma City and Boston, Brown might be the third-best player behind Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jayson Tatum.
Can Celtics repeat as champions?
Winning an NBA title is incredibly difficult. There’s a reason the Celtics were competitive for nearly a decade before achieving the feat. They finally got over the hump, though, and they’re returning the same squad that rose the club’s 18th banner.
Can the Celtics get over the hump again? They’ve arguably got both the most talented and rounded squad in the entire NBA. With two All-Star and a handful of incredible players that star in their roles, Boston is in good hands.
There are plenty of factors, though. Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday, as well as the rest of the core, must remain healthy. They need to be at full force for a majority of the season once the 7-foot-3 big man returns to the floor.
So, the short answer is yes, the Celtics can repeat as champions. They’re going to have to have some luck roll in their favor, remain healthy and, most importantly, knock off some very talented squads in the playoffs to do so.
