After showering and changing into an overlarge shirt (but no pants), Syr insists Bell share the bed with her. She’s ready to prove her intense feelings for him on the spot, but he tells her they can’t. At the end of the day his reason is that it would upset Hestia. Now that we know who “Syr” is, that’s quite the knife twist for her.
A lot more knives twist this week. After he has a heart-to-heart with Welf, who tells him he can’t pretend nothing happened with Syr, Bell finds himself defending her from Freya Familia’s resident chuuni Hogni Ragnar. Cringy dialogue aside, he’s a tough customer who means to put Syr to death.
When Bell isn’t quick enough, Ryuu swoops in, along with Syr’s co-workers at the tavern. One of them, Anya, is the little sister of Allen, who arives along with the four Gullivers to even the numbers. The girls manage to buy some time for Bell to escape with Syr, but everyone is gravely injured.
Bell admits to this “Syr” that she’s not the girl he was with last night, and indeed manages to stop her from sliding a dagger between his ribs. She decides to give up the fight and tells Bell, who protected her even knowing she was an impostor, where to find the “real” Syr. Hogni, Allen, and the four Gullivers then unmask this “Syr” as an unhinged Horn, who sought to kill Bell lest her queen (Freya) become “defiled” by him.
Bell promised Welf and himself that he’d have a proper talk with Syr, and he has it, but it’s brief. He lets Syr say her piece: that she’s head-over-heels in love with him and wants to spend forever with him. To this he merely says he had no idea. He also had no idea that rejecting someone who loved him would eat away at him, but he does it all the same, giving her a final-sounding “Sorry.”
Syr walks home in the intensifying rain, and tells Ottarl to proceed with the next stage of her plan. Syr, an ordinary mortal tavern girl, is merely a form that Freya can take on. And just because she failed to win Bell’s heart as Syr doesn’t mean she’s done pursuing that heart. She’ll proceed as Freya, and I doubt it will be pleasant for Bell. Perhaps this means he’ll be the Damsel-in-distress going forward, and his friends and familia will have to work together to rescue him from a scorned, infatuated goddess.
