Regulus Corneas put out some serious Nobuyuki Sugou vibes last week, and they are confirmed this week, as he again asks Lia if she’s a virgin. Naturally, she doesn’t know what that word means, which to Regulus means she’s his “ideal woman.” He declares her his 79th wife, and orders Wife Number 184 (a stoic Koga Aoi) to dress his newest. This guy sucks! I demand a mass wife revolt, immediately!
When Subaru and Crusch infiltrate city hall they find the purple dragon, which not longer has a voice, and Crusch defeats it with relative ease, saving a little hostage girl. When the girl directs Subie to the room where the other hostages are, all he finds are giant houseflies. Crusch is then knocked out by the girl, who was Capella Emerada Lugnica, Sin Archbishop of Lust, in disguise.
Capella, a dragon in human form (gamely voiced with a healthy dose of scenery-chewing menace by Yuuki Aoi), is your classic switch, at one point getting her rocks off physically and psychologically torturing her prey, and another by having half her face ripped off. She’s also able to read minds, transforming into Emilia to further fuck with Subie before flashing an evil face Emilia would never have, then splitting her in two.
Sprouting various chimera-like appendages, Capella proceeds to mop the floor with poor Subie, ripping his only recently-magically-repaired leg clean off. When she sees that both he and Crusch are about to die from their injuries, she bites her wrist ands splashes them with her blood, which not only regenerates but transforms those it touches. All the animation surrounding Capella’s movements and transformations are top-notch; White Fox is cooking this season.
Meanwhile, Sirius pays a visit to Anastasia and Kiritaka, but Mimi’s triplet brothers fight through the pain of sharing their sisters pain to defend their lady. Kiritaka tasks Anastasia with ridding the city of the Witch’s Cult filth, and she confidently, if somewhat grudingly, agrees to take on that task.
Lest we forget, Felt is still being held at swordpoint by Reinhard’s father Heinkel. When some giant bugs suddenly show up and Felt freaks out, it creates and opening for Reinhard to free her, and she smashes Heinkel in the head with his own wine bottle. The bugs were sent into the tavern by Otto, who managed to escape one of the two Gluttony Archbishops. Felt promises to get to safety, but orders Reinhard to go help Subaru.
Subaru…is not having a great time throughout this episode. Now bereft of one of his legs, by some stroke of dumb luck the purple dragon wakes up and carries both Subaru and an unconscious Crusch out into the city.
Unfortunately, one of the water gates has been opened, and the city is flooded, all while Capella makes three fresh demands in addition to the witch’s remains: the Tome of Wisdom, an artificial spirit, and that no one interfere with Emilia’s impending nuptials.
Things are in a very bad way for the good guys, as so far the Archbishops have been able to have their way and laugh it up doing so. But hey, it’s always darkest before the dawn!
