The latest addition to the Gundam series, Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX is in development. It is the first joint project between Studio Khara and Sunrise and is scheduled to air on Nippon TV.
The series has an all-star staff starting with director Kazuya Tsurumaki who directed the Rebuild of Evangelion series beginning with Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time in 2021. The series composition will be by Yoji Enokido with mechanical design by Ikuto Yamashita and the screenplay will be co-written by Yoji Enokido and Hideaki Anno.
The story begins when Yuzuriha Amate, a high school girl living peacefully in a floating space colony, meets a war refugee named Nyaan and gets dragged into the illegal world of mobile suit duel matches called “Clan Battles”. Entering under the name “Machu”, Amate pilots GQuuuuuuX and throws herself into fierce battles day after day.
At the same time, a mysterious mobile suit (Gundam) and its pilot, a young boy named Shuji who are being pursued by the space army and the police appear before her. Now the world is on the brink of entering a new era….and the story unfolds.
The cast has been announced with Tomoyo Kurosawa voicing Yuzuriha Amate (Machu), Yui Ishikawa voicing Nyaan and Shimba Tsuchiya voicing Shuji Ito.
In addition to this, prior to the TV series broadcast, a selection of episodes have been reconstructed for theatrical release as “Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning-” and will be screened in 373 theaters across Japan from January 17th, 2025.
