No sooner do Taiki and Hina meet up does Chinatsu spot the two together. Worse, her teammates spot them, and assume the first years are dating. Chinatsu doesn’t hide her shock and dismay, but we’re the only ones who see it. The teammates are fawning on Hina’s yukata and cute hair.
We learn that Hina’s text saying she was still in even after Kyou canceled was an impulsive one, and now that she has Taiki all to herself, she’s nervous. Taiki can sense something’s off—she’s not her talkative self—but can’t sense what that something is. But when he compliments her hair and says she looks cute, he does notice that Hina looks extremely happy, so he’s not entirely blind.
During a break in the fireworks, Taiki heads to the restroom only to run into Chinatsu, who has found a lost girl. The two take her to the front desk together, with the girl (Hime) deciding to hold both of their hands, resulting in indirect hand-holding. Mind you, Taiki isn’t using the girl as an excuse to hang with Chinatsu; he’s simply being an upstanding guy.
On their way to the desk, a stunning young woman accidentally bumps Taiki, and it turns out to be Karen, both Chinatsu’s childhood friend and Haryu’s girlfriend. She knows how hardworking Taiki is, that Chinatsu lives with him,. We also learn via flashback that Chinatsu admitted to Karen that she sees Taiki as a guy.
After reuniting Yume with her mom, Chinatsu gets a kiddy hairpin as a thank-you gift, and Taiki ribs her for it. Since her “line-drawing,” he’s afraid to tell her she looks cute, lest it “destroy everything they have.” After a moment under the fireworks they part ways, but upon her return Chinatsu’s teammates remark upon how sad she looks.
The next morning Taiki runs before heading to practice, and naps in the hallway after practice. Chinatsu sees him, crouches beside him, and says what she can only say because she knows he’s asleep. She wants to know if he’s dating Hina, because it sure looked like he was when he was at the festival with her.
His answer will change the way she feels about him as a housemate, because if he is dating Hina and never told her, it will hurt. It also hurts that he lied about going in a group—though we know he wasn’t lying at the time, and that circumstances simply led to him going with just Hina.
What Chinatsu is doing here is neither fair to Taiki nor fair to herself. She deserves answers, but she has to ask a conscious Taiki, both so she gets those answers and so that Taiki can explain that he wasn’t lying. Lil’ Hime was reunited with her mom at the festival, but Taiki and Chinatsu remain lost in a cloud of misunderstandings and assumptions.
