Freya charmed and manipulated all of Orario for Bell, and failed, but she has one more card to play, and she plays it. She’s still powerful and influential enough that when she demands a war game, she gets one. If she wins, she gets Bell. It has never been a matter of what he wants, and that still holds true here. Bell, in turn, asks that he get to meet with Syr, or rather “the real Freya,” once more if he is victorious.
Freya allows Hestia to form an alliance to bolster her tiny familia, but all the big dogs, including Ganesha, Hermes, and Loki, are sitting this one out and only offer nominal support, if any. Their abstaining from the alliance means Hestia has to get creative, resulting in a “hide-and-seek” style war game. Finn gives Lili some strategists’ advice, while Aisha will get to participate, but Ais can’t even train with Bell. Freya later admits only to herself that it’s because she’s jealous of her bond with Bell.
Bell is now Level 5, and has enhanced escape speed and resistance to charm, and the Hiryute sisters are allowed to spar with him. But nobody is under any illusions that this will be an easy, or indeed very winnable fight for Team Hestia. Freya’s familia ain’t the strongest in Orario for nothing, and we’ve seen from Bell’s captivity how powerful, numerous, and above all devoted to their goddess they are.
Part of Finn’s advice to Lili was to exploit her cuteness to draw in their hastily-assembled army and deliver some tough impassioned words in order to stoke their motivation. She admits that the fight is a lopsided one, and that Freya’s army could easily defeat them, even though there are dozens of gods hiding on Hestia’s side and they only need to seek out Freya. But Lili’s not about to let Freya off the hook for messing with all of them, and she doesn’t want to lose Bell. Nobody does.
All of the gods and goddesses participating in the hide-and-seek are given flowers that they must hold on to in order to stay in the game. This presents an easy opportunity for gods to be disqualified left and right. Bell discusses something with Lili, but it’s cut away; all we know is that it’s something that Lili would rather not do, though executing it as Bell asks. Finally, Cassandra lets Lili and Bell know that she’s had a dream, and that she believes the winds are in their favor. Let’s hope so!
