Magic Johnson has given his seal of approval to the LA Lakers trade with the Brooklyn Nets.
Former LA Lakers president Magic Johnson has given his seal of approval to the team’s trade for Dorian Finney-Smith and Shake Milton.
The Lakers sent three second round picks, D’Angelo Russell and Maxwell Lewis, in order to acquire the two new players.
And while Patrick Beverley controversially thinks the Nets got the better deal, Magic Johnson is confident the Lakers have moved smartly.
Magic Johnson verdict
LA Lakers legend Magic Johnson took to X to give his verdict on the Lakers and Nets trade.
He wrote: “Laker Nation, I am so excited about the trade for Dorian Finney-Smith. He’s an excellent defender and 3-point shooter – just what the Lakers needed!”
Johnson also appeared impressed with the second player acquired in the trade, Shake Milton, and praised general manager Rob Pelinka.
He wrote: “Really good move by Rob Pelinka. The Lakers also acquired Shake Milton!”
LA Lakers trading from strong position
At the start of December the LA Lakers were in the midst of a really tough stretch, which included a 41-point losing margin against Miami.
It was clear then that a trade would be needed, but despite this, JJ Redick has coached his team up, changed the line-up, and has got the team back on track.
The Lakers are currently fifth in the Western Conference at 18-13, and this trade makes them stronger defensively.
JJ Redick has spoken publicly about his admiration for Dorian Finney-Smith, who he previously played with briefly on the Dallas Mavericks, and he knows all about what the newly acquired star can bring to the team.
