Anthony Edwards had a lot to say after the way the Boston Celtics defended against his Minnesota Timberwolves.
All year the Minnesota Timberwolves have looked to find the balance they had last season before the decision was made to trade Karl-Anthony Towns.
Star player Anthony Edwards was not happy after he was double-teamed all game by the Boston Celtics in last week’s game. He scored only 15 points and expressed his frustration afterwards.
Edwards moaned: “That’s not how I want to play, I’m only 23, I don’t wanna just be passing the ball all night.”
Edwards found his scoring touch
Anthony Edwards got exactly what he wanted when the Timberwolves visited the Detroit Pistons. Lots of clean looks, and lots of points.
Edwards posted a career-high 53 points including 10-15 from three-point range. It was the perfect response on an individual level.
There was one pretty clear problem, Edwards’ scoring was not enough. Detroit won the game easily, it wasn’t even close, 119-105.
While Edwards scored 53, Julius Randle contributed the next highest with 17. No other player managed into double figures.
Donte DiVincenzo, lauded as a ‘catalyst’ for offense by coach Chris Finch, scored only five points. Mike Conley did not manage a single point.
‘Code red’ for Timberwolves
The Minnesota Timberwolves have now lost three games in a row, after winning three straight. It means they are back down to .500 with a 17-17 record.
The nature of this loss shows that even with Edwards playing a lead role and getting his shots off, the Timberwolves lack the balance around him to be an effective winning team.
Bill Simmons wrote on X: “The Timberwolves situation has been upgraded to a code red”.
Meanwhile Karl-Anthony Towns continues to play in a way that puts himself in the conversation as an outsider for the MVP.
As for Edwards, you wonder how long it will take him to force a Jimmy Butler style exit, if the Timberwolves cannot get their act together around him.
