Mike Conley is enduring a brutal regression this 2024-25 season.
From averaging stellar and serviceable numbers in his first two seasons with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Conley has become miserable now in his ongoing play for the franchise. Across 30 games, the veteran point guard has been averaging career worsts in his offensive stat line from points (8.0) and field goal shooting (34.9%) while just logging 24.9 minutes.
As such, his awful fallback was simply on full display in the T-Wolves’ 119-105 Saturday loss against the Detroit Pistons in which he went scoreless in 0-of-4 shooting (0-3 from threes) for 21 minutes.
Be more aggressive
Of all the key people within Minnesota who are fully aware of Conley’s struggles, it’s Chris Finch who stands as the most determined to aid the longtime point guard in redeeming himself.
Right at his media availability following their disappointing road loss against the Pistons, the Timberwolves head coach assured that he’ll put the 37-year-old in a much better position to productively contribute and evade what the Saturday night has offered.
“I think Mike, we talked about this,” Finch stated. “We need him to be aggressive in the start of games. We are going to have to call some plays to direct the ball back into his hands.
“That’s on me there.”

It might appear that Father Time is finally knocking at Conley’s door considering the one-time All-Star’s current season runs. But the Timberwolves can only be optimistic that Conley will eventually recover his footing and deliver a necessary bounce back.
Conley played an important role in the team’s groundbreaking campaign by clinching 56 wins and a historic trip to the 2024 Western Conference Finals. One of the Timberwolves’ recipes for success leans towards the productivity of Conley, and their zigzagging progress thus far could be attributed as well to the struggles of the former Ohio State star.
For now, the Timberwolves will certainly pull whatever they can to help Conley improve his overall performance. And should there be no changes that will appear, they can only act urgently and potentially make a move to identify their next showrunner at the point.
