Sometimes simplicity is best, and the premise of this show doesn’t get much simpler: two co-workers start dating, but keep it a secret from the rest of the office. This is about grown-ass adults, who have already gotten past the pining, confession, and asking-out stages that sometimes take up entire seasons of anime to complete, if at all. That makes this an easy, breezy comfort food watch.
That said, it’s still early enough in their relationship that they’re still figuring out how to handle things. In their first interaction since becoming a couple, Mitsuya Yui is unnaturally hostile towards her secret lover Tateishi Masugu. The two also have to endure an interminable elevator ride, though at least once it gets crowded enough they get to hold hands and cuddle, recharging their batteries.
When they finally get to go on a movie date, they run into Yui’s old college senpai and end up going to dinner with him. C’mon guys, make up an excuse and politely decline! They spend the whole dinner pretending not to be close, but they’re not fooling anyone, as the senpai apologizes and gives them a wink before they part ways.
While Yui and Masugu are still learning how to comfortably call each other by their first names, they also wake up naked in bed together, with a heavy implication that Yui said Masugu’s name many times the previous night. It’s refreshing to see these two so comfortable and confident in their affection for one another. I’m eager to see what other challenges they’ll face as they strive to keep love and work separate.
