Gilbert Arenas found Anthony Edwards’ recent complaints hilarious.
Following the offseason trade of Karl-Anthony Towns to the New York Knicks, Anthony Edwards became the outright No. 1 option for the Minnesota Timberwolves.
It has been a double-edged sword for the 23-year-old. On one hand, he has the green light to shoot as many times as he wants.
But on the other hand, opposing teams’ defenses are paying more attention than ever to the 2x NBA All-Star.
Anthony Edwards expressed frustration with growing double-teams
In a recent game, the Boston Celtics completely shut down Edwards as he was restricted to just 15 points in the 118-115 loss.
Following the loss, Edwards went on a lengthy rant about being forced to pass more due to getting double-teamed on every other possession.
“It’s not how I want to play, of course. I’m only 23, I don’t wanna just be passing the ball all night… But the way they’re guarding me, I think I have to,” Edwards said.
He added: “Them doubling me, definitely it’s like, ‘Bro, what is going on?’ I’m trying to figure it out … I don’t know what to do honestly, but it’s not fun.”
Edwards’ comments went viral, and many called out the Timberwolves star. Kendrick Perkins even said that getting double-teamed isn’t an issue. Instead, Edwards just missed Towns.
Gilbert Arenas gives blunt take on Edwards’ complaint
During the prime of his NBA career, Gilbert Arenas was one of the most fearsome scorers in the league. Evidently, he’s seen his fair share of double-teams.
Keeping that in mind, Arenas shared his own experience while dropping his two cents on Ant’s issues.
“I never seen a double-team good enough to make me pass the ball. I don’t even know what that problem looks like,” Arenas stated.
“Obviously, they don’t practice against double teams in their workouts. Like, you are a star player, which means you are gonna be double.”
“When you’re going through your ______ workout, and you’re going against your trainer, and y’all do this goofy ____. There’s going to be some games where they double. So, you should already know what it’s supposed to look like.”
To be honest, Edwards has been on a scoring spree since being vocal about his problems with getting double-teamed. He has had two 30-point-plus games and one 50-point-plus game.
As a result, the Timberwolves have gone 2-1 in that stretch, and honestly, that’s much better than cribbing about getting double-teamed.
