I can understand that it can feel overwhelming to try and know where to start when it comes to looking for new makeup products. There is so much out there to choose from, and it’s difficult to know which things are worth investing in and which things you can go a cheaper route with.
Recently one of our sweet babysitters for the kids asked for a little direction when it comes to makeup shopping. She described her skin as sensitive and explained she was primarily looking for base products like foundation, blush, and concealer. I went overboard with my recommendations, like usual, and sent her a whole long list of products to check out!
Here is what I texted her:
Okay, so I would start with a great concealer, a glowy product to mix in to moisturizer or just wear on it’s own for your “base”, and a blush color you love.
My favorite concealer is Nars Creamy Concealer. 10/10, no notes. Works on blemishes, under the eye, it’s just amazing. Go in to Sephora and swatch to find out your color, there is a huge shade range.
I love the ELF Halo Glow Setting Powder. It’s brand new, I ordered from ELF but also saw it at Ulta and Target. it’s a glowy, natural looking base. love love love.
If you want to add a liquid glowy product in, I genuinely love the ELF Halo Glow. Either on it’s own or mixed with foundation, it’s great. Do not buy Charlotte Tilbury Flawless filter, you will waste your money. Buy the ELF version.
Brows: NYX eyebrow pencil does the exact, and I mean exact thing that Anastasia Brow Wiz does. I love both, I would never be able to tell them apart in a blind test.
if you want a bronzer, I love the Kosas bronzer. I have waves and beachy, swatch in store to see which is best. Waves (the lightest) is very light.
Best mascara of all time: Lancome Lash Idole.
Blush (this is my fav category) : I would recommend Saie blush for you. Easy to work with, pretty colors, decent price point.
Use an angled blush brush to blend in to cheeks.
Lips, I mean — it’s all about tinted glosses right now. I feel like you can pick your fav based on what kind of application you like (wand versus tube), but if you want a wash of color that is super easy to wear, I really love these by Bobbi Brown.
I also reminded her that is it completely okay to return makeup products, even after you have tried them. Some of these suggestions are pricey, so I’d hate for her (or anyone) to feel obligated to keep something even if they know they don’t like it, or if it’s the wrong color.
If you are looking to add a few new products to your routine, or have a teen that is just getting into makeup, these are a the same things I would recommend that you start with too!
