After his promotion to Shadow Monarch, Jinwoo heads home, goes to bed, and sleeps so long he almost misses his sister’s parent-teacher meeting. When he arrives, Jin-Ah learns that he’s transformed into an even hotter version of himself, causing all the girls in the hall to swoon.
Jin-Ah’s teacher tells her swole BTS-esque Bro that she’s doing just fine, both as a student and as a person, though she’s not quite at the level to get into med school. The teacher actually has something else for Jinwoo’s attention: Han Song-yi, whom he first met in episode 10. She assumes he’s there to dissuade her from going on any further hunting parties, but he asks her to come with him instead.
Jinwoo takes Song-yi to a C-rank gate where they are the two E-ranks in a 10-person party, led by a young, eager-to-advance A-rank tank. But just as everyone steps through, the gate turns red and becomes impermeable. Jinwoo had hoped to show Song-yi how brutal these quests can be so she’d quit on her own, but this is more than he bargained for.
The party is transported to a remote, frozen forest and ambused by devious ice elves, AKA ice slayers. One of the party members is shot through the eye with an ice arrow, and Song-yi is also targeted, but Jinwoo catches the arrow meant for her with his bare hand. The A-tank splits the group in two in a transparent effort to separate the strong from the weak and increase the former’s chance of survival.
Having witnessed Jinwoo catch an arrow the A-tank couldn’t even see, the a female B-rank mage decides to join Jinwoo, along with a Song-yi and a C-ranker. That turns out to be the right choice. Not only is Jinwoo able to summon warm coats for everyone, but he deals with all the ice bears that attack them on his own, and with breathtaking ease. He only asks that none of them ask questions, and keep quiet about what they see.
When dozens of bears attack at once, Jinwoo dips into his new playbook and summons the army of undead knights and mages who now answer to him. When all the lesser bears are down, the Boss Bear shows up and drains Jinwoo’s MP, leaving him unable to re-summon the army. But he still has Igris. And Igris doesn’t just defeat the Boss Bear, but does it with style.
As for the A-tank, all the other members of his party are killed, and he ends up screaming and running from the ice elves, who look poised to hunt him. Jinwoo, on the other hand, is an island of tranquility in a frozen sea of chaos. His only mission is to keep Song-yi safe and get her out of this place. If he levels up a bit on the way, that’s just a nifty bonus.
