There is one particular player that Paul George has taken a liking to recently.
The Philadelphia 76ers have left plenty to be desired with their early season results after acquiring Paul George alongside Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey.
Obviously, staying on the court has been a problem for the trio, which could have been anticipated ahead of the season. There have been a few bright spots amid their 15-22 record through 37 games though. Prior to suffering a season-ending injury, Jared McCain looked to be on pace to become the Rookie of the Year.
However, there is one key role player who has been superb for Philadelphia, and he spent years out of the NBA before getting this chance with the 76ers.
George shouts out 76ers teammate who has “been balling”
Again, there hasn’t been a lot to like about the 76ers’ current season. They’ve struggled plenty in many aspects, though they’ve found a couple of gems. McCain looked like a star, and Guerschon Yabusele is the perfect role player.
Yabusele has played in 37 contests, starting in 16 of those matchups, and has averaged 9.9 points per game in an average of 25.4 minutes played. The 76ers forward is shooting 39% on 3-pointers, along with 50% from the field and adding 5.3 rebounds per game.
George, a former All-Star who has enjoyed a remarkable career, was highly complimentary of Yabusele on the recent episode of his show “Podcast P.”
“He’s been balling. I love playing with [Yabusele]. Yabo is a warrior. He plays hard. He does all the dirty work,” George said.
“He can shoot the three. He’s just been so consistent. He’s so versatile. It’s crazy he’s been out of the league. His skill set is perfect for today’s NBA.”
Why Yabusele will be in the league for a while
On top of having a football-like build, Yabusele has an incredible skillset that fits the modern role player perfectly. George even mentioned it on his show, claiming that the combination is remarkable. Evidently, he played 74 games for the Boston Celtics over the course of two seasons from the 2017-18 season to the 2018-19 season.
Yabusele didn’t just get back on the radar of NBA teams, but he used the overseas experience to prove exactly why he’s a perfect role player in the league. The French product has quickly carved out a strong role in Philadelphia.
George pointed out the many strengths of Yabusele, and he continued to detail how his shooting touch is incredible and adds to a long list of strengths in his game.
“Yeah, his touch, at his size, his physique, to have that touch behind the 3-point range — he can play above the rim, he can play below the rim, he’s got a post-up game — and he does the little things,” George continued. “I think what goes underrated is his offensive rebounding… I tip my hat to Yabo, man, he’s having an amazing year.”
George sees Yabusele up close in practice and in games on a consistent basis. For a once-MVP candidate to sing the praises of a player like the French product means quite a bit, and Yabusele should enjoy a long NBA career as a role player after returning to the league following six seasons overseas.
