BYD has unveiled the Han L sedan and the Tang L SUV, and the new electric models feature the brand’s latest design language and electric motors.
For exterior dimensions, the Han L sedan measures 5,050 mm long, 1,960 mm wide and 1,505 mm tall with a wheelbase of 2,970 mm, making it 10 mm longer, 50 mm wider and 10 mm taller than the BYD Han. Rolling stock for the Han L is a set of 19-inch alloys shod in 245/45R19 tyres.
Both flagship models get electric powertrains with up to two motors and 810 kW (1,102 PS), and the models also get petrol-electric plug-in hybrid powertrains, these being comprised of a 1.5 litre (156 PS) petrol engine and a 200 kW (272 PS) electric drive motor. Battery-electric powertrains for the Han L sedan include a single-motor, rear-wheel-drive setup that outputs 500 kW (680 PS) and spins up to 30,000 rpm.
This variant is joined by a dual-motor all-wheel-drive derivative, with a 580 kW (789 PS) rear axle motor combining with a 230 kW (313 PS) front axle motor for the aforementioned 1,102 PS combined output. Thus equipped, the dual-motor Han L does 0-100 km/h in a claimed 2.7 seconds.
In terms of specification, Car News China cites Chinese website Difans as stating that the BYD Han L packs a battery that can be charged at up to 120 kW, enabling a 16-80% recharge in 10 minutes, and from 80% to 100% in 14 minutes, for a range of over 1,000 km.
The battery is claimed to be capable of 6C charging; defined as the charge or discharge current divided by the battery’s capacity, where a 1C rating means a fully charged battery at 1Ah provides 1A for one hour.
For its SUV stablemate, the Tang L, this three-row SUV measures 5,040 mm long, 1,996 mm wide and 1,760 mm tall with a wheelbase of 2,950 mm, and thus measures 170 mm longer, 46 mm wider and 35 mm taller than the BYD Tang. Rolling stock is a set of alloy wheels ranging from 20 inches to 21 inches in diameter.
Official images from BYD show the interior of the Han L sedan to feature a dual-floating screen dashboard, where a 15.6-inch central infotainment unit is accompanied by a smaller display for driver instrumentation. The Tang L gets a similar dashboard architecture as that in the Tang L, with differences visible in the front door cards and of course, the passenger seating of a 2-3-2 layout for the seven-seater SUV.
In terms of pricing, the BYD Han L and Tang L are set to go on sale in China from 300,000 yuan (RM184,103), before the sedan and SUV models launch overseas, Car News China reported.
