Fresh off the Red Gate, Jinwoo completes the agreed-upon 19 raids with Jinho, who doesn’t have to lift a finger in his fancy armor since Jinwoo’s shadow army handles everything. They later bond over barbecue, as Jinho admits he’s not close with his biological big brother, but has come to think of Jinwoo as another big brother. Jinho later promises his dad he can recruit Jinwoo to their sixth guild.
The balance of the episode is Jinwoo returning to the Demon’s Castle, using the access key he previously won by defeating the gatekeeper, Cerberus. Upon entering the doors close behind him and he is given a quest: capture 10,000 demon souls. He then proceeds to do just that. Since he’s over three times the level he was when he first fought Cerberus, and also has Igris, Iron, and Tank the Ice Bear, he has a pretty easy time of it.
This week we get Solo Leveling’s patented 10 Seconds with Hae-in, reminding us that she’s still around and also seems frustrated, perhaps due to lack of control over looming events. Meanwhile, Jinwoo is in total control, as even when he finally faces a somewhat worthy opponent on the 50th floor of the castle, he’s able to analyze it and formulate a path to victory pretty quickly. But while he doesn’t break much of a sweat, the battle looks cool as hell, as one would expect of Solo Leveling.
Speaking of looming, one person looms over this entire episode. Discovered by an American raiding party and having been trapped within a Gate for years, a half-feral man is captured and questioned. The man doing the questioning is Hwang Dongsoo, and the wild man is Sung Il-Hwan—Jinwoo and Jin-ah’s father. When Dongsoo tells him his son is dead, Il-Hwan defeats the S-ranker in the blink of an eye, leveling the entire building where he was being held.
Jinwoo stops his ascent at the 75th floor of the 100-floor castle, having leveled up quite a bit and also gained two of the three ingredients for the Elixir of Life. Lest we forget, he’s doing this for his mom. Alas, he’s out of food, and at least one more high-level boss remains, so it wouldn’t be wise to press on. We’ll see if Il-Hwan is waiting for him back home, and if the “ultimate catastrophe” is something for which he needs his son’s help, or Jinwoo himself is that threat.
