It seems Anthony Davis’ plea has fallen on deaf ears in the Los Angeles Lakers’ front office.
When the Los Angeles Lakers completed a blockbuster trade to acquire Anthony Davis in 2019, the expectation was to help them win an NBA Championship.
Well, AD fulfilled that promise in his first season with the Purple and Gold. But since then, the Lakers have failed to reach the same level of success.
A key reason behind that is the organization forcing Davis to play center. While he has the frame to do so, he played the best basketball of his NBA career as a power forward.

Despite struggling with multiple injuries during his Lakers career, Davis has seemingly put them behind him over the past year or so.
Even in the 2024-25 NBA season, AD has been fairly available for the Lakers. But does that mean Davis is happy with his current role? It feels like the 31-year-old cannot wait to play as PF again.
“Well, defensively, just bringing another big out there, we’ve seen it with Jaxson, we’re a little bit more disruptive. Offensively, it just allows me to float around a little bit more. I only started playing the 5 in 2021,” Davis told Jovan Buha.
He added: “I’d have stretches, but I was primarily a 4. My whole career I’ve been playing to 4 and we’ve seen how I play. I just feel a little bit more effective… But the front office knows that. I’ve told them every year I’ve been here, so it’s nothing new.”

If the Lakers manage to add another big man to the roster before the Feb. 06 NBA Trade Deadline, it could be the final piece they need to compete for an NBA title.

Prior to doubling-down on the need to get a big man after the Boston Celtics game, AD’s interview with ESPN’s Shams Charania went viral.
In the same conversation with Buha, Davis explained his comments to Shams.
“I mean, we always want to have a championship mindset. We always want it to be attainable. I think our front office is, obviously working. Rob is working on trying to better the team. But for us, it’s about going out and playing,” Davis continued.
“I know he is always working on the phones and stuff like that. But at the end of the day, we can’t try to wait on anything,” he concluded.
At the end of the day, Davis and Co. will have to play with the cards they have been dealt. Right now, with the Lakers getting six games above the .500 mark, they have some breathing space.
But is the job done? Certainly not.
