Emerging from the Demon’s Castle Gate, Jinwoo acknowledges that he can’t hide his strength in the shadows forever, nor can he make decent enough money as long as he’s an E-rank. To That end, he gets himself reassessed and seemingly breaks the machine. But chief determines there’s no malfunction: the machine simply isn’t capable of measuring Jinwoo’s magic power. That essentially makes him the tenth S-rank in Japan.
This creates a huge to-do—exactly what Jinwoo was hoping to avoid, but word travels fast. Choi Jong-in happens to be in the building, but Jinwoo walks right past him without so much as shaking his hand. Baek Yoon-Ho, eager to get Jinwoo to join White Tiger, is just a bit too late, as his target vanishes without a trace. Nevertheless, both S-rankers are no doubt excited at the prospect of a new member of their rank.
The first S-ranker to actually get a sit-down with Jinwoo is Hunter’s Association Chairman Go Gunhee, who Jinwo can sense is on equal footing with him strength-wise despite pushing 80 years old. Go tells Jinwoo that The HA is a vital “sixth power” that can maintain the balance between the five guilds, and simply by being S-rank makes Jinwoo the perfect candidate for a high-ranking position in the Association. But Jinwoo politely declines, telling Go he “belongs in the dungeon” and would rather keep fighting there.
Go’s heart is aflutter from Sung’s words, and when he learns he’s supporting his family it only increases his respect for him. But for now, Jinwoo wants to keep leveling up so he can acquire the final ingredient for the elixir that will cure his mom. So he joins a blue-collar mining party—still officially as an E-ranker—because it gets him access to an A-rank Gate; the kind of Gate where the likes of Choi and Cha Hae-in operate.
While his E-rank continues to make him the subject of mockery even in such a blue-collar environment, when someone tries to shove him, one glare from Jinwoo sends him packing. Jinwoo also shows he’s very good at mining mana crystals. He foregoes an hour-long lunch break so that he can investigate the A-rank boss, which he doesn’t intend to defeat but at least wants to assess.
But while he thinks he’s alone, he’s caught by Cha Hae-in, who asks him what he’s doing. She knows how strong he truly is, so lying to her isn’t going to work. If I were him, I’d tell her his noble reasons for wanting to get stronger: to save his mom. Hell, I’m just happy Jinwoo and Hae-in are finally interacting at all.
