The Make It Kustom Model A Roadster project has been a staple in the background of the shop since they started the channel, and there have been plenty of episodes involving metal shaping and fabrication as Karl works on parts for it. We’ve seen him build the DuVall style windshield frame, door panels, interior sheet metal, the grille, and a lot more. In this video he’s going to be doing some fabrication to install the engine, but it’s not just any old small block that is going into this Model A.
Nope, it’s not getting a Flathead either. This particular Model A is getting one of the most iconic traditional hot rod engines of all time, the Buick Nailhead. I’ll admit, I’m pretty critical of this engine, but it sure as hell does look amazing.

On this episode of Make It Kustom, I am working on a 1931 Model A Roadster building custom Buick Nailhead engine mounts using flat head Ford style rubber pucks. I levelled the engine and transmission and then started measuring for my mounts. I transfer these measurements into a CAD program and cut my plates on my Fast Cut CNC Table with a Hypertherm Powermax 85 sync CNC plasma cutter. Using the brake press, I form the mounts into the final shape. After the engine and transmission are aligned in their final spot, I TIG weld to the chassis.
