A twist of fate for two Los Angeles Lakers hopefuls has led to them being teammates.
The LA Lakers made a move in mid-January to waive guard Quincy Olivari and sign center Trey Jemison.
It appeared to end Olivari’s spell on the team, clearing the path for him to sign with another, before days later, he ended up re-signing with the South Bay Lakers.
Olivari re-signed after the Lakers waived Kylor Kelley, who has since signed with the Dallas Mavericks.
Jemison joined after being cut from New Orleans, bringing experience from brief spells on the Wizards ad Grizzlies.
How Trey Jemison is faring in LA
Trey Jemison arrived on the Lakers with high hopes, but it’s been tough going for him to date.
He has played two games to date, totaling 17 minutes, scoring one point, grabbing six rebounds and making one block.
JJ Redick said he had some adjustments to make after his debut, but in recent games, Jemison has not featured, and now Jarred Vanderbilt has returned.
Vanderbilt was terrific in his comeback game, praised by LeBron James, and this has knocked Jemison down the pecking order.
Signed on a two-way deal, Jemison has dropped down to make his South Bay Lakers debut in the G League.
Jemison and Olivari team up
Lining up together for the South Bay Lakers against the Rip City Remix, Trey Jemison and a returning Quincy Olivari made a most unlikely pairing.
They both put up strong numbers in a 122-110 victory, showing what they are capable of.
- Trey Jemison: 14 points, 11 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 block
- Quincy Olivari: 20 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals
The performances help their development and show what they can do with game time, hoping that Redick might call them up for minutes if required.
Christian Koloko also put up 16 points and 10 rebounds, but all three were outshone by Bronny James.
Bronny James tallied a career high 31 points in the win, really demonstrating his own potential.
