Behind the Los Angeles Clippers’ surprising success this season has been the stellar heroics of both James Harden and Norman Powell.
Defying expectations that they would have a poor 2024-25 due to the exit of Paul George, the the Los Angeles Clippers managed to silence their critics thanks to the two.
James Harden runs the show as the floor general with averages of 21.7 points and 8.3 assists, Norman Powell meanwhile takes the lead as the L.A.’s top scorer with a team-high 23.9 markers.
As Los Angeles sits at the No. 6 spot of the West with 26-19 and just two games away for the fourth seed, Clippers fans and even experts have massively campaigned for the duo to land and play in the 2025 All-Star Game this February.
Yet unfortunately, it seems that luck and favor are way too elusive for them to earn that ticket in San Francisco.
Kawhi Leonard gets candid about James Harden & Norman Powell’s All-Star odds
The NBA has already unveiled the three fan-vote returns and the starters for both the Conferences ahead of the All-Star Game this upcoming month. But two of the Clippers’ primary candidates for the festivities are yet to be confirmed if they will be in the final mix.
In the final voting results from the player rank, media rank, and fan rank, Harden and Powell made it to the Top 10, but their spots aren’t entirely secured. Harden garnered the sixth highest weighted score amongst guards in the West (7.25) while Powell ranked No. 10 (8.5).
This week, the Association will finally reveal the names of the reserves to complete the official slate of this year’s All-Star players. And for Kawhi Leonard, he has his fingers crossed that his teammates will make it to the cut.
Yet amid these wishes, the Clippers superstar also fully understands the nature of the selection process which could hinder Harden and Powell’s entry.
“[They’ve] been playing great all year. It’s a lot of politics in it. So we’ll see what happens,” Leonard said of the 2025 All-Star odds for Harden and Powell following the Clippers’ Saturday win against the Milwaukee Bucks.
“I’m not sure if they’re gonna give us two players.
“You know how that goes. Hopefully they do. They’ve been playing at a high level.”
Harden & Powell deserve their spot into the All-Star Game
No other Clipper player other than Leonard will hardly support both Harden and Powell’s chances to play in the Bay Area.
On the sidelines as he missed the first 34 games of 2024-25 due to the recovery of his surgically repaired right knee, Kawhi had a front row seat of how Harden and Powell took over for the Clippers. As such, he couldn’t be happier for how the two successfully guided the Clippers in the midst of his absence.
Before Leonard made his debut in January, Harden and Powell already propelled the Clips to 20 wins that placed the club within the early playoff picture of the West.
From Stephen Curry, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Anthony Edwards, Kyrie Irving, and Luka Doncic, the hopefuls amongst guards to represent the Western Conference are absolutely stacked. We can only wait and see for the official announcement of the final list, but both Harden and Powell absolutely earned their right to be included in the grand event.
