While Route 66 originally went from Chicago to Santa Monica, and is arguably one of the most famous roads in the world, there isn’t a lot of it left in some areas of the original route. It was named in 1926, with official signs going up in 1927, but most historians claim that the heyday of Route 66 was from 1945 to 1965. And if you visit certain areas of Route 66 in Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona and California you can see some really cool old hotels, restaurants, and other landmarks that will take you back in time.
In California, Route 66 goes by several other names and is State Road 66 for much of the route now. In this video, Freiburger is traveling on 66 from the states line in Needles, all the way to Santa Monica, and he’s looking for cars, trucks, and fun stuff along the way.
