Sundance 2024: The Sasquatch Family Will Play in ‘Sasquatch Sunset’

One of the best nature documentaries ever made has just premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival. It's a remarkable look featuring copious amounts of never-before-seen footage of a very rarely observed creature known as Dinanthropoides magnipus. Directed by the accomplished filmmaking brothers David Zellner & Nathan Zellner, their new nature doc is called Sasquatch Sunset, an one-of-a-kind observational film taking us closer than ever before into the lives of a Sasquatch family. While it might seem a film about some furry creatures hanging out in the woods might be rather boring, this one breaks the mold and explores new territory. Sasquatch Sunset is a bewildering, fascinating, ambitious cinematic experience unlike anything any human has ever encountered before. While you may not think it is necessary to spend this much time with them, there is much that humans can learn from this study of these rare creatures and their daily lives. In all seriousness, this film is genius. Sasquatch Sunset is indisputably a one-of-a-kind, nothing-else-like-it-exists project. It feels like an observational nature documentary in so many ways, which is what makes ...

Sinister Trailer for Dark Web Thriller ‘DarkGame’ Starring Ed Westwick

"I expect your death to top the ratings." Gravitas Ventures has revealed the unsettling official trailer for a film titled DarkGame, a twisted horror thriller by director Howard J. Ford. Set for release in February on VOD if anyone wants to watch. A determined Portland detective is in a race against time to stop a twisted game show being broadcast on the dark web, where captives are forced to compete for their lives. The losers are executed via live broadcast. For the sadistic masked host, this is all part of his master plan to gain more ratings. Ed Westwick stars as Det. Ben Jacobs, with Andrew P. Stephen, Natalya Tsvetkova, Lola Wayne, Rose Reynolds, and Rory Alexander. This isn't the first movie about a death game broadcast online, there are tons of them already, and this definitely won't be the last either. This looks as exploitative and as gross as the game within it, with no real worthwhile meaning to consider, just depraved horror junk. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Howard J. Ford's DarkGame, direct from Gravitas' YouTube: Six innocent ...

Sundance 2024: Caring for Hummingbirds in ‘Every Little Thing’ Doc

There is an especially delightful, humble, rejuvenating documentary film that recently premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival that is all about hummingbirds. Yes, it's focused on these remarkably small birds (the smallest!) that buzz around mainly during summer season. It's a supremely nourishing film about hummingbirds and a woman in Los Angeles who takes care of and helps save many of them. Every Little Thing is the latest fantastic doc creation from Australian filmmaker Sally Aitken (Getting Frank Gehry, Nolan - The Man and the Myth, Hot Potato: The Story of the Wiggles). Some might remember her other acclaimed doc titled Playing with Sharks: The Valerie Taylor Story, which premiered during the online-only Sundance 2021 a few years ago. She's back again at Sundance with the film Every Little Thing, and it's another special, one-of-a-kind documentary experience about animals living with us on this planet that we really need to take a closer look at. We need to pause and appreciate them. It moved me to tears it's so good. I had a feeling before the festival started that this ...

Trailer for Tyler Perry’s New Thriller ‘Mea Culpa’ Starring Kelly Rowland

"Please - this is my life and they're trying to ruin me." Netflix has revealed the full official trailer for Tyler Perry's next film titled Mea Culpa, about a defense attorney's steamy affair. Set for streaming on Netflix starting in February, where Perry still has a deal and has been releasing most of recent films - including A Jazzman's Blues before this one. Starring Kelly Rowland as Mea Harper, with Trevante Rhodes, Nick Sagar, Sean Sagar, RonReaco Lee, and Shannon Thornton. The tagline should just be "everyone is guilty of something", which is a strange way to deal with injustice but hey maybe it makes for some steady movies. So many good lines in here: "a snake is never violent when stalking their prey... it's only when they get right into striking distance." Oh my, Perry. If You Fall Asleep, You Die – Horror Film ‘Double Blind’ Official Trailer

"Everyone - stay awake, whatever you do! Don't even close your eyes...!" Starring Millie Brady, Pollyanna McIntosh, Kate Ashfield, Diarmuid Noyes, Akshay Kumar, and Brenock O'Connor. Official Trailer for ‘Box: Metaphor’ – Dystopian Sci-Fi Mystery Thriller

"You are who you choose to be." Gravitas Ventures has revealed an official trailer for an indie sci-fi creation called Box: Metaphor, from filmmaker Kevin Khachan. This one goes on the list of extremely literal titles - so this sci-fi film about people stuck in box is, uh, a metaphor? Go figure. Box: Metaphor is a compelling dystopian journey where unjust imprisonment unveils societal conformity and defiance's profound impact. It's about breaking free from metaphorical boxes and the resilience of the human spirit. Box: Metaphor is set in a dystopian world, described as "having a similar aesthetic to The Hunger Games franchise." The big ensemble cast features Kasia Stelmach, Lorry D'Ercole, Charlotte Coquelin, Martin Cohen, Diane De Lacy, Jasmine Evans, Kevin Khachan, Kloud Milas, and Charlotte Wood. This doesn't really look terrible, thankfully, but not sure if it'll be any good either. Cool concept, let's just hope it's a good film. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Kevin Khachan & Alicia Cantero's Box: Metaphor, from YouTube: This sci-fi film is described as a cross between Cube (1997) & Escape from Alcatraz ...
